The Pinellas Academic Bowl Team is sponsored by the FAMILY CENTER ON DEAFNESS. This group is open to motivated and academically talented deaf and hard of hearing high school students from all over Pinellas County . Participation requires a strong commitment to self-improvement and team work, with frequent practices and training sessions plus community service projects. Students must meet strict scholastic and behavior standards, as established by the team members, themselves.

Teens on the Academic Bowl team travel to the regional Academic Bowl competition sponsored by Gallaudet University in the spring. They gain a great deal of knowledge and skills that enable them to perform better on standardized tests, develop leadership and decision making skills, and acquire experiences to be included on job and college applications
